Thanks, Gowalla!
Gowalla sent me a netbook, which I thought was very nice of them. Normally Gowalla gives away free stuff my associating it with an item that must be discovered out in the field. Not so for me. Out of the blue, I received an email with a link to a form. I filled it out, and two months later, a laptop showed up. It's the Samsung N310, which isn't an amazing machine, but it was fun for me to experiment with installing Jolicloud on it. I had some initial problems getting Jolicloud set up, and it's definitely a 1.0 product. I might wait until 1.1 (coming next month) to start using it again, but I really like it in concept. It's built around the notion that you only need to be using one app at a time (sound familiar?). It only runs some simple, lightweight applications right now, but honestly, if you're editing video on a netbook, we probably can't be friends.
